We’re all shapeshifters, bending ourselves to belong, whether that be to someone, something, or someplace. An endless pursuit of finding a shell we can comfortably hide in for the rest of our lives. Existence is weird. You’re becoming again and again and again, so much so that you forget how to be.
How many layers of myself do I need to hide in until you like what you see? And why is it that I want you to like me so badly? Is it genius evolution for me to want you to want me, or flawed design? I’ve spent so much time playing hide-and-seek with the self that, by the end of it, I realized all of existence is simply a homecoming. We aren’t going anywhere; we are coming back to something. The farther out we cast our shadows, the closer we get to ourselves. The light we are looking for descends deeper when we allow ourselves to have depth. All of this is just a path back to ourselves — and to the parts of ourselves we find in each other. This entire journey is so that we can see the self beyond the self. Who are you when you aren't you? What does your soul gravitate to when you relinquish all movement, to and from where you've been and where you think you need to be? This homecoming happens when we let life reveal itself, as the dust of all this existential noise begins to settle. Give it permission to settle. Give yourself permission to come home.
